During the exceptionally wet ones she found herself immersed in a world of make believe and dreams. She was always building, creating, drawing and of course experimenting with beauty products and hair dyes. On the more dry, overcast days, she would explore. The woods behind her house had so many noises and smells. She enjoyed the feeling of the hair that raised on the back of her neck when she stepped accross the wall of trees onto a small trail where everything in nature was watching her. She could name every plant and animal in the forest as well as down the road on a small beach of Puget Sound where she would hold in her hands little jellyfish that to her at least were easily distinguishable from the poisonous ones. When she was nineteen years old, life brought her to Youngstown. The sky was still grey here, but with a lot less nature. Concrete was more abundant and the winters were colder which made exploring more difficult. Submerging herself yet again into the arts she began to study graphic design and photography at Youngstown State University and working as a freelance artist at local bars painting murals and creating chalk art menus. She soon found herself displaying her photography in galleries, using herself as a model and changing her look drastically from photo to photo. Soon other women had wanted to experience a similar transformation and Kathleena was happy to help. One day, while getting her hair done and flipping through some of her photos she was approached by someone who had suggested she apply for a scholarship at the Casal Aveda Institute. This would be the perfect opportunity for her to learn the essentials in order to focus on the art of change. She applied and to her excitement she won a full scholarship. Upon finishing her 1800 hour education in Managing Cosmetology, Kathleena has been licensed and practicing in the states of Pennsylvannia and Ohio. She eventually went back to Casal Aveda Institute where she was an educator passing along the knowledge she had gained over the years to her students. Her work has been published in magazines, she has cut hair for professional athletes, The Learning Channel (TLC) and has worked backstage at several Runway shows including New York Fashion Week. Kathleena has also worked behind the scenes in the beauty world as a corporate sales manager, however it is the yearning to share her creativity and love that brings her back behind the chair.
